Antique & Vintage Postcards

Against a cool silver-grey ground, a single oversized pink poppy bursts forward in striking three-dimensional relief — its crepe-paper-textured petals flushed deep rose at the veins and fading to near-white at the scalloped edges, a blue-white staminal boss at its heart, a smaller companion bloom emerging below on a painted green stem with teal-tinged leaves. Embossed to the lower right in silvered script: A Happy Birthday. Printed in Germany for the vast Anglo-American greeting-card trade of the Edwardian era, this card showcases the period's apex of chromolithographic embossing — the poppy petals are individually die-cut and proud of the card surface, giving it an almost sculptural presence. The reverse is unused and pristine save for a pencilled notation "Earl A." in the message quadrant, suggesting the card was selected as a gift for someone whose first name began with those letters but never sent through the post.
