Postcard 1950s Banyan Tree Court Moana Hotel Honolulu Hawaii Chrome Unused

Honolulu, Hawaii, USA1958ChromeExcellent

Dappled shade filters through the spreading aerial roots of a massive banyan tree onto a sun-drenched lanai of teal café tables and yellow-topped umbrellas — this is the legendary Banyan Tree Court of the Moana Hotel on Waikiki Beach, where every Saturday afternoon NBC's Hawaii Calls radio program broadcast the sound of steel guitars and ocean breezes to millions of mainland listeners. In the background, through the banyan's canopy, the deep blue of the Pacific shimmers between coconut palms. This vivid chrome card — photographed by Irving Rosen and published by Christian's Color Card Service, Honolulu — captures the Moana at peak mid-century glamour, before the adjacent Surfrider wing was added in 1969. The Moana, opened in 1901, was Waikiki's first luxury hotel and remains a National Historic Landmark. A penciled dealer price "EL 1-" appears in the upper right corner; card is unused with no postal markings.
