Postcard 1965 Chrome Wawasee Motel Syracuse Indiana Lake Country AAA Listed

Syracuse, Indiana, USA1965ChromeGood

A snapshot of mid-century Midwestern motor-travel culture: the Wawasee Motel in Syracuse, Indiana photographed in the early 1960s, its long single-story stone-faced wing stretching across the frame with a row of picture windows, patio chairs set out front, and a pair of period American automobiles — a black sedan and a station wagon — parked on the gravel lot, while the neon motel sign is just visible at the far left edge. Published by Perc Bartlett Photos of Syracuse and printed by Dexter Press in West Nyack, New York, this chrome-era card advertises fifteen units with wall-to-wall carpet, television, and air-conditioning, touting its position at the heart of Kosciusko County's 101 lakes with golf, fishing, water skiing, and boating in summer, and skiing at Mt. Wawasee in winter — owned by Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Jones, Jr. The back carries a handwritten note dated June 19, 1965, reading "I'll be in room #3 on June 19, 1965 (Calveston's meeting)" — a glimpse of a private rendezvous or professional gathering arranged via postcard, as was common before telephone ubiquity.
