Postcard Nelson's Column Trafalgar Square London England c1905 Pre-Linen

London, England1905Pre-linenGood

Rising dramatically against a pale London sky, Nelson's Column commands the center of this evocative Edwardian-era view of Trafalgar Square — pedestrians in frock coats and long skirts dot the broad paving stones below, and the National Gallery's columned façade stretches across the right horizon, anchoring a city still very much at the height of empire. The sepia real-photo style image captures the monument's full 145-foot grandeur, the Corinthian column topped by E.H. Baily's 17-foot sandstone Nelson gazing forever south toward Whitehall. The reverse carries a printed description noting the column's 1843 completion and its tribute to "one of Britain's greatest sons," but bears no postmark or handwritten message — a pristine, unused souvenir likely sold at London stationers in the early 1900s. The penciled price notation "100" in the stamp box corner suggests later dealer inventory.
