Antique & Vintage Postcards

Vivid color-lithographed "Gruss aus" (Greetings from) postcard of the Kohlmarkt in Braunschweig, Germany, published in 1899 by Zedler & Vogel of Darmstadt. The market square is centered on an ornate multi-tiered stone fountain; behind it stands the Café Central (formerly Café Denecke) in a pale blue gabled building, flanked by richly decorated Wilhelmine commercial facades. To the right, a horse-drawn tram car and horse-drawn vehicle animate the street. The card uses the composited half-image format typical of Gruss aus cards of the era, with the left panel showing Renaissance revival commercial buildings and the right showing the full market scene.
