Postcard 1960s International Market Place Waikiki Hawaii Chrome Honolulu

Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA1965ChromeExcellent

Sun-drenched and buzzing with mid-century tourism energy, this chrome-era view captures the iconic entrance arch of the International Market Place in Waikiki — a beloved open-air bazaar where visitors from across the globe browsed Hawaiian crafts, South Seas novelties, and exotic foods beneath towering coconut palms. The scene thrums with period vitality: shoppers in aloha shirts and pedal pushers cross a busy intersection, a stoplight and telephone poles frame the lush tropical canopy, and hand-painted wooden signs advertise beachcomber wares. The "Beachcomber" shop is visible at left. Published by Mike Roberts Color Productions — one of the premier chrome postcard houses — and distributed locally by Movie Supply of Hawaii, this is a quintessential Waikiki tourism artifact from Hawaii's early statehood boom years.
