Postcard 1967 Windham County Court House Newfane Vermont Chrome Fall Foliage

Newfane, Vermont, USA1967ChromeGood

Beneath a canopy of blazing autumn maples, the stately Windham County Court House in Newfane, Vermont glows in creamy white Greek Revival splendor — a scene so quintessentially New England it could be a painting. Built in 1825 and considered one of the finest Federal-Greek Revival courthouses in America, the building anchors Newfane's village green on Route 30 and draws leaf-peepers and architecture lovers alike. This chrome-era card captures the building at peak foliage, the warm amber leaves framing its grand columned portico against a vivid blue sky. On the back, a traveler named Lillian dashes off a breezy summer letter to her friend Emily, describing a rambling road trip along the Vermont–New Hampshire border — rain one day, sweltering heat the next — with plans to visit a doll and toy museum, cousins, the Cathedral of the Pines, and possibly Old Sturbridge Village on the way home. "How about you and Lu and I getting together for a get-fest this summer?" she asks, the casual warmth of a mid-century friendship practically leaping off the card. Mailed from Rindge, NH on July 31, 1967.
