"I am just as enchanted with Hawaii as I was the first time," Constance wrote home to New Jersey in November 1972, mailing this vivid chrome view of the Royal Hawaiian — the "Pink Palace of the Pacific" — from Waikiki Beach. Opened in 1927 and once a wartime R&R stop for submarine crews, the hotel had recently added its modern Sheraton Tower when this card was sent.
