Postcard Georgia Hotel Atlanta GA Chrome Unused 1950s Downtown High-Rise

Atlanta, Georgia, USA1958ChromeExcellent

Fifteen stories of dark brick rise from the corner of Atlanta's downtown grid, crowned by the swirling red neon script of "Georgia Hotel" — a sign that blazed above Peachtree Street through the postwar boom years when single rooms started at just $3.50 a night and 750 rooms and 250 baths made this the undisputed hub for salesmen, politicians, and out-of-town visitors seeking the "center of Atlanta." Period automobiles — tail-finned sedans and boxy station wagons — line the kerb beneath a bright-blue chrome sky, placing the image squarely in the late 1950s. The card was published by the Harmon House of Photography, Atlanta, and printed for distribution as an advertising piece; the back quotes room rates and describes it as "Travelers' First Choice for Downtown Comfort." The Georgia Hotel later became the Atlanta Hilton site area as urban renewal transformed the block, making surviving advertising cards like this a modest time-capsule of mid-century Atlanta hospitality.
