Postcard Old Grist Mill Jericho Vermont Chrome Unused Dexter Press 1960s

Jericho, Vermont, USA1965ChromeExcellent

Rust-red clapboard climbs four stories above a jumble of granite boulders where a fast-running stream churns white through the old millrace — the Old Grist Mill of Jericho, Vermont, a structure so painterly in its weathered vernacular charm that it became, as the card itself notes, "a favorite subject of artist and photographer alike" and a landmark of special note in the Champlain Valley foothills. The stone lower courses show centuries of water-cut erosion while the upper floors retain their Victorian board-and-batten siding in faded barn red, a colour that pops brilliantly against the deep summer green of the surrounding maples. Photographed by Eric M. Sanford and published by Russ White Enterprises of Rindge, New Hampshire, this Dexter Press chrome is unused and crisply printed — the 35¢ pencil price notation and dealer code "EL 1—" in the stamp corner suggest it passed through a New England gift-shop rack. Jericho's mill, originally a grist mill dating to the early 19th century, is closely associated with the town's snowflake photographer Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley, whose family farmed nearby.
