Antique & Vintage Postcards

Framed by a blaze of New England autumn color, this 1961 chrome-era postcard captures the beloved West Dummerston Covered Bridge spanning Saxtons River in Windham County, Vermont — the longest covered bridge still in use in the state, stretching 280 feet on its original 1872 timber-truss bones. The photographer Frank L. Forward rendered the weathered vertical-board siding in warm amber tones, the decorative diamond-pattern lattice vents along the portal unmistakable against a crisp cobalt sky. Stone abutments anchor the bridge above a rocky, low-running stream, while hills ablaze in red and orange fill the horizon. A handwritten "1961" annotation in blue ink and a penciled price mark appear on the reverse of this unused card, published by Forward's Color Productions of Arlington, Vermont, and printed by Koppel Color Cards of Hawthorne, NJ.
