Postcard 1950s Chrome Marble Island Lake Champlain Burlington Vermont GMS Series

Lake Champlain, Burlington, Vermont, USA1955ChromeExcellent

Glassy blue water stretches to the horizon in this mid-century chrome postcard of Marble Island, a small, wooded rocky outcrop rising dramatically from Lake Champlain near Mallets Bay, just north of Burlington, Vermont — its limestone cliffs streaked rust and cream where marble was once actively quarried. Tall marsh reeds frame the foreground in amber-green, while a single white sailboat drifts lazily at anchor to the right, and the densely forested Champlain shoreline rolls away in both directions under a powder-blue summer sky. Lake Champlain, straddling the Vermont–New York border and extending into Quebec, is one of the great inland lakes of North America and a recreational paradise; its scenic islands were a favourite subject for the postcard publishers of the 1940s–1960s. This example was produced by Green Mountain Studios, Inc. of White River Junction, Vermont — a regional publisher known for quality Kodachrome-process colour photography — as part of their Vermont Kodachrome series, catalogue number 264. The GMS series imprint and "OC-K264" catalogue code are consistent with chrome-era production c.1950–1965. The card is unused and in excellent condition.
