Antique & Vintage Postcards

Wet cobblestones catch the grey English light in this atmospheric real-photograph postcard of the Byward Tower — the outer gatehouse of the Tower of London — its twin drum towers of ragstone and brick looming over the approach road exactly as they have since Edward I completed them around 1280. The photographic detail is exceptional: iron fencing, the arched gate passage, chimney pots and weather vanes of the inner ward buildings, and the gentle curve of the approach bridge are all rendered with the tonal precision of a genuine silver-gelatin print. The reverse, printed in a clean early divided-back format, identifies the subject as "Tower of London — The Byward Tower" with separate columns for Correspondence and Address; no publisher imprint is visible, suggesting a wholesale stock card. A penciled "150" appears in the stamp box — a dealer inventory notation. Never mailed, never stamped.
