Sepia real photo postcard of Schloss Sitzenberg viewed from the south across the still waters of the castle pond, Lower Austria — the Renaissance castle crowning a wooded hill above a reed-fringed lake, its four characteristic onion-topped towers visible above the treeline. Sitzenberg, documented as far back as the 10th century and once held by the princes of Styria and later by Duke Frederick II of Austria, sits in the Tulln district wine country between Vienna and the Danube; by the time this card was made in the 1930s the castle was still in private hands, shortly before it became an agricultural college in 1951. Posted from the nearby village of Reidling to a young woman in the 21st district of Vienna.
