Antique & Vintage Postcards

Real photo postcard of Seefeld in Tirol at its most dramatic — a rowboat crossing a glassy lake in the foreground, the alpine village reflected in the still water, and the full wall of the Wetterstein massif rising behind under a sky of building thunderclouds. The light has that heavy, pre-storm quality that alpine photographers hunted: everything a little too bright, the mountains a little too close, the reflections impossibly perfect. Seefeld sits on a high plateau above the Inn valley at 1,200 meters and has been an alpine resort destination since the late 19th century; it hosted the Nordic skiing events at the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics. Richard Müller's Photo-Kunstkartenzentrale in Innsbruck was the principal publisher of Tyrolean alpine RPPCs in the interwar period, and this is among his best work.
