Black-and-white printed view of the square before the Rector's Palace (Knežev Dvor) in Dubrovnik (then known as Ragusa), Dalmatia, in the era of Austro-Hungarian administration. The Gothic-Renaissance loggia of the Rector's Palace fills the right half of the image, its ornate pointed arches and carved capitals clearly detailed. The square opens to the left with the cathedral dome and bell tower visible behind, the limestone-paved Pred Dvorom busy with figures in period dress, a horse-drawn conveyance in the foreground, and gas lamp standards along the walkway. The bare karst hillside rises steeply behind the town.
