Postcard 1918 German Liederkarte No.19 Franz Schubert Hannerl Singspiel Music

Vienna, Austria / Leipzig, Germany1918Pre-linenFair-Good

A Viennese gentleman in a long frock coat leans toward a seated young woman in a billowing off-shoulder gown — she smiles coyly, fan in hand — capturing a flirtatious scene from the beloved 1918 Singspiel Hannerl, which wove together melodies attributed to Franz Schubert. This is Molitor's Liederkarte No. 19, a charming novelty postcard that unfolds to reveal the full printed sheet-music and Viennese dialect lyrics for the duet "Es is' a alte Hauben" ("Es is a alte Hauben…"), with text by Dr. A. M. Willner and Heinz Reichert, music arranged by Carl Lafite, and copyrighted 1918 by W. Karczag of Leipzig and Vienna. The artwork is attributed to illustrator G. Freschich. These musical postcards were issued as promotional items for the operetta and distributed through Lyra-Verlag (H. Molitor) in Leipzig — collectible ephemera sitting at the crossroads of music history, Viennese popular culture, and postcard artistry.
