Postcard WWI 1915 Constantinople Golden Horn RPPC German Feldpost Navy Ship

Constantinople (Istanbul), Turkey1915Pre-linenFair-Good

Sent from a German sailor stationed aboard a warship in the Bosphorus during the First World War, this striking real-photo panoramic card sweeps across the Golden Horn — the storied inlet that cleaves Constantinople in two — with sail and steam vessels dotting the grey-blue water and the distant silhouettes of minarets barely visible through the haze on the far shore. The reverse is stamped "Deutsche Marine Schiffspost Nr. 69" (German Naval Ship Post No. 69), dated 1915, and addressed to a recipient named Leopold in München, Germany; the dense cursive message fills every centimetre of the left panel. Published by Ludwigsohn of Place Karaköy 21, Constantinople, this is a genuine wartime field-post item documenting the German naval presence in the Ottoman capital during the Dardanelles campaign — a historically significant combination of subject, sender, and cancel.
