Postcard 1967 Montevideo Uruguay Beach Pocitos Chrome Used 5c Stamp Minnesota

Montevideo, Uruguay1967ChromeFair-Good

A sun-drenched crescent of sand at Playa Pocitos — Montevideo's most fashionable urban beach — teems with summer bathers, colorful umbrellas, and the sleek mid-century apartment towers of the Rambla that line Uruguay's Rio de la Plata shore, while the writer, traveling alone and signing with love, tells her parents Harry and "Ron" back in Good Thunder, Minnesota that she's "having a real nice time" and will likely be heading to Texas tomorrow — a postcard snapshot of a solo American traveler's 1967 South American adventure, full of the era's casual wonder. Mailed April 13, 1967, from Montevideo and postmarked in Washington on April 21, the card traveled by airmail with a U.S. 5-cent George Washington definitive stamp (Scott #1213 or similar Prominent Americans series). The reverse identifies the subject as "Vista Parcial de la Playa Pocitos, Montevideo – R.O. del U." (República Oriental del Uruguay), printed by Impresora Uruguaya S.A. Inside the fold of this card a fascinating bonus image reveals: what appears to be an aerial view of a dense city grid — likely a separate mini-card or folded promotional insert from Montevideo — adding an unexpected layer of visual interest to this lot.
