Postcard 1903 London Trafalgar Square Nelsons Monument F.F.&Co Used Germany

London, England1903Pre-linenFair-Good

A sweeping panorama of Trafalgar Square in its Edwardian prime — horse-drawn omnibuses jostle with early motor vehicles around the base of Nelson's Column, and the National Gallery's neoclassical façade stretches proudly across the background in this vivid colour-lithograph card postmarked 25 February (year visible as "03" on reverse), making this a remarkably early used example from London's most iconic address. Published by F.F. & Co. and printed in Germany with the rich chromolithographic palette of the era, the card was sent from England to Switzerland, addressed to a gentleman named in Walkringen, Canton Bern — a Swiss village in the Emmental hills — where the local postmark confirms its safe arrival. The message, written in German script across the face of the image in the pre-divided-back style, fills every margin with a flowing hand; the sender clearly had much to say and no dedicated message space to say it in. A one-penny Edward VII stamp in red franks the reverse.
