Interwar Oslo at full market-day intensity — Youngstorget packed shoulder to shoulder with stalls and shoppers, tram tracks at the edge, and the newly opened Folketeatret rising above it all in modernist concrete. The People's Theatre had just opened in 1935, making this card dateable to that year or just after; its neighbor the Verdensteatret cinema is visible alongside it. Youngstorget was Oslo's working-class commercial and political heart — the Labour Party kept its headquarters on the square, and the same crowds buying produce here were the ones building Norway's social democratic movement in the interwar years. Publisher J. H. Küenholdt A/S captured the square at its busiest, before the German occupation of 1940 would transform the city entirely.
