Postcard 1910s Veldes Slovenia Felder See Lake View Pre-Linen Unused

Bled (Veldes), Slovenia1910Pre-linenGood

From a balustrade promenade lined with ornate iron lamp posts, the glassy waters of the Felder See (today's Lake Bled) stretch toward the church spire and red-roofed village of Veldes — a resort town in the Julian Alps that passed from the Austro-Hungarian Empire to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia after 1918, making this tranquil scene a quiet witness to geopolitical upheaval. Someone — perhaps a traveller named Berta or a local shopkeeper — has written "Felder See." in flowing blue cursive across the water's surface, personalising what was already one of the most picturesque views in the eastern Alps. The real-photo-style halftone print captures the hazy summer mountains behind, the lush chestnut tree at right, and the careful civic pride of the lakeside promenade.
