Antique & Vintage Postcards

From a high vantage on Killiney Hill, the great curve of Dublin Bay sweeps northward in a panorama of crystalline colour — the sandy beach at Killiney glowing pink, the flat expanse of sea steel-blue, and the twin humps of the Great and Little Sugarloaf mountains rising behind Bray Head in a haze of violet and grey. This hand-coloured photochrome-style card from "The Milton Post Card" series — printed in Germany in the Edwardian/early Georgian era — captures the view that inspired writers from George Bernard Shaw to Samuel Beckett, who both lived within sight of this same prospect. The Milton Post Card brand used a German chromolithographic process that produced some of the richest landscape colours of the pre-WWI postcard golden age. The card remains unused and is in excellent condition, its colours bright and unfaded — a small window onto the Wicklow coastline as Edwardian holidaymakers first learned to love it.
