Warm red brick and cream stone columns frame a magnificent copper-green dome — Eureka, California's Carnegie Free Library wore its civic ambition openly, and this early hand-tinted postcard captures every detail of that distinctive crowned silhouette against a powder-blue sky. Funded by Andrew Carnegie and opened in 1902, the Eureka library was one of California's earliest Carnegie gifts and featured an unusual ribbed dome that made it instantly recognizable. Published by Edwin H. Mitchell of San Francisco — another major early California postcard house — the card's back format specifying "Domestic One Cent / Foreign Two Cents" and "THIS SPACE FOR ADDRESS ONLY" (without a correspondence line on the message side being labeled) places it squarely in the early Divided Back era, approximately 1907–1912. The card is unused, uncirculated, and retains vivid original color with a penciled dealer price "2-" on the reverse.
