Antique & Vintage Postcards

Hidden inside this elegant Edwardian multiview postcard of Kenilworth Castle — with its haunting ruined Norman keep and ivy-draped banquet hall photographed from every angle — is a delightful accordion-fold pull-out strip revealing six additional miniature views of the town: Castle Green, St. Nicholas Church, The Square, Kenilworth Castle from multiple aspects, and the old high street with a woman and bicycle frozen in time. The outer card shows five crisp sepia-toned photographic views labeled "Kenilworth Castle from Outer Court," "Banqueting Hall & Keep," "Oriel Window Banquet Hall," and "High Street," while the pull-out strip tucked beneath expands the souvenir into a pocket album of Edwardian Warwickshire life. Marked a Pocket Novelty Card on the reverse, with British manufacture throughout, this type of novelty card was enormously popular among Edwardian tourists visiting the castle made famous by Sir Walter Scott's 1821 novel Kenilworth.
