SS Imperator Hamburg-American Line Largest Ship Postcard 1914

New York, United States1914Pre-linenGood

"Will be unable to get a close view of this... it sailed at 9 o'clock this morning," Willa wrote home in April 1914, having watched the SS Imperator — then the largest ship in the world — depart New York less than a year after her maiden voyage. Seized as war reparations after WWI and renamed RMS Berengaria under Cunard, her massive Imperial Eagle figurehead made her instantly recognizable in her brief but spectacular pre-war career.
