Postcard 1910 Oberammergau Musltona-Haus mit Kofel Bavaria Germany Color

Oberammergau, Bavaria, Germany1910Pre-linenExcellent

Framed by the dramatic limestone spike of the Kofel mountain, the painted Musltona-Haus of Oberammergau glows with the exuberant Lüftlmalerei tradition in this vibrant color-printed postcard published for the famous 1910–11 Passion Play season — a lone dark-coated figure stands before the frescoed facade, dwarfed by swirling religious scenes in blue, gold, and red that wrap the whitewashed stucco walls. Oberammergau, a village in the Bavarian Alps south of Munich, had been staging its Passion Play every decade since 1634 as a vow of thanksgiving for deliverance from plague, and by 1910 it had become one of Europe's great pilgrimage-tourism destinations; publishers like Munich's Lorenz Fränzl issued elaborate souvenir postcard sets for each decennial. The house's painted facade depicts devotional figures in high Baroque style, its green shutters and red decorative surrounds contrasting with the crisp Alpine light, while the door sign reads "Andreas Lang" — likely a notable local Passion Play family name. The reverse is clean and unused, dated by the publisher's imprint to 1910–11.
