Postcard 1910s Berlin Bahnhof Friedrichstrasse Station Street Scene Pre-Linen

Berlin, Germany1910Pre-linenGood

Horse-drawn carriages jostle beneath the soaring glass-and-iron train shed of Berlin's Friedrichstrasse station in this vivid chromolithographic street scene that captures Imperial Germany's capital at the peak of its belle époque confidence — mailed by someone named Jean and Léone to a "Mlle. Léa" at a rue François-Bonnus address in northern France. The elevated railway arches over the cobblestoned Friedrichstrasse while a cigar shop crowds the left foreground, double-decker horse buses fill the middle ground, and the magnificent arched glass canopy — completed in 1882 and still standing today — crowns the composition. A delivery cart for "Tafelwasser" (table water) adds a delightful commercial detail. The card is publisher-marked "Brillant No. 11," suggesting a quality chromolithograph series. The message side bears a Berlin postmark and a French destination address, making this a rare cross-border social document: two French visitors or expats sending greetings home from one of Europe's great railway hubs.
