Postcard 1902 Gruss aus Cham Bavaria Embossed Coat of Arms Panorama Used

Cham, Germany1902Pre-linenGood

Sent in September 1902 from the Bavarian market town of Cham to a young woman named Anne staying at the Villa Longyfeind in Bad Reichenhall, this richly embossed Gruss-aus card glows with hand-colored heraldic shields — the blue-and-white lozenges of the Kingdom of Bavaria and the red-and-white town arms of Cham flanked by crowned lions. The inset photograph offers a sweeping pastoral panorama of the town, its twin church steeples rising above low rooftops into a hazy sky, meadows rolling in the foreground. The writer, signing as Anne, mentions she will be traveling from Munich on the 26th or 27th and hopes to visit soon. The reverse carries a Bayern 5-Pfennig green stamp (Bavaria coat-of-arms definitive) postmarked Cham 13 Sep 1902, with a corresponding arrival cancel from Bad Reichenhall 14 Sep 1902 — a 24-hour delivery that speaks to the efficiency of Imperial German postal service.
