Postcard 1906 Nürnberg Männleinlaufen Frauenkirche Clock Germany Litho

Nuremberg, Germany1906Pre-linenExcellent

Bathed in jewel-toned lithographic color, this 1906 artist-rendered close-up captures Nuremberg's famous Männleinlaufen — the beloved mechanical clock on the Gothic façade of the Frauenkirche on the Hauptmarkt — its gilded Roman-numeral face gleaming above a procession of tiny elector figures that circle Emperor Charles IV every day at noon. The soaring Sebalduskirche tower rises in the background, and the intricate stone tracery of the church's triple-arched porch fills the foreground with Gothic grandeur. Published by Hermann Martin of Nuremberg in 1906, this unused card is a pristine example of the high-quality German Kunstverlag (art publishing) tradition at its Edwardian peak.
