Antique & Vintage Postcards

Part promotional card, part literary keepsake, this richly decorated 1911 advertising postcard from Johann Brixius's wine estate "Zur Traube" (At the Grape) in Cond on the Mosel — directly across the river from the picturesque town of Cochem — bears on its front a striking embossed-style portrait medallion of Joh. Brixius himself raising a glass, surrounded by hop vines, with Latin mottoes proclaiming Vinum de Vite, Donum de Deo ("Wine from the vine, a gift from God") and the exuberant call Carpe Diem / Atove Bibe Nectar e Cellis Brixii!. The reverse carries a witty German poem titled "Merkt's Euch!" ("Take Note!") written by noted Rhineland author Joseph von Lauff, dated August 22, 1911, at Cond "Zur Traube" — making this a rare piece of ephemera linking a named literary figure to a specific wine estate event.
