Postcard 1903 Kaiser Wilhelm II Portrait Real Photo Germany Royalty Unused

Germany (Berlin)1903Pre-linenFair-Good

Caught in a rare moment of composed authority, Kaiser Wilhelm II sits in a gilded Baroque chair wearing his striking scarlet court uniform, the blue ribbon of a high order crossing his chest and a jewelled badge — likely the Order of the Garter or a Prussian equivalent — resting at his waist: this early three-colour photomechanical portrait card, printed by Römmler & Jonas of Dresden and published circa 1903, captures the German Emperor at the height of imperial confidence, roughly a decade before the world he personified would begin to fracture. The card is unused, with a pristine divided-back layout in the "Union Postale Universelle" multilingual format (German, French, Italian, Hungarian, Czech, Russian, Spanish, and Portuguese listed), and was copyrighted in 1903 ("Gesetzl. gesch. 1903, Steglitz") by the Neue Photogr. Gesellschaft Berlin. Römmler & Jonas were among the finest colour printers in Imperial Germany, and their portrait cards of Wilhelm II are steadily collected. The reverse notation "S.M. Kaiser Wilhelm II. Dreifarbendruck nach Orig.-Aufn." confirms this as a sanctioned official portrait print — a small but vivid piece of Wilhelmine imperial culture.
