Antique & Vintage Postcards

Deep beneath Milan's Duomo, the jewel-encrusted crystal reliquary of San Carlo Borromeo glows from within its baroque chapel crypt — this rare commemorative postcard captures the intimate, candlelit atmosphere of one of Italian Catholicism's most venerated shrines, hung with heavy damask draperies and watched over by gilded angels. Issued to mark the third centenary of Carlo's canonization (MDCX–MCMX, i.e. 1610–1910), it was officially approved by the organizing committee and printed by the Milan publishers O. Lissoni and E. Revoiera, making it a precise historical artifact of the 1910 jubilee celebrations. The richly ornate altar, candelabra, and carved relief panels fill the frame with a sense of hushed devotion that would have resonated deeply with Catholic pilgrims of the era.
