Antique & Vintage Postcards

Automobiles, horse-drawn carriages, electric trams, and a surging pedestrian crowd swirl around a Baroque street fountain at the foot of Via Roma — Naples' grandest commercial boulevard — in this sharp aerial-perspective halftone card from the 1920s, a moment frozen when the ancient city was fully embracing the machine age without quite surrendering its old rhythms. The wide view, shot from an upper-storey vantage, reveals the full canyon of Belle Époque apartment façades, awning-shaded shop fronts, and the monumental neoclassical building at the left (likely the Palazzo Gravina area), while the foreground fountain teems with figures — a policeman in white, vendors, loungers — creating an unintentional street-photography masterpiece. Published by the Ditta R. Zedda di V. Carcavallo of Naples, one of the city's most prolific postcard houses, the card is unused and in excellent condition.
