Antique & Vintage Postcards

A riot of Pompeian color explodes from this rare chromolithograph postcard — vivid reconstructed wall decoration from the House of the Small Mosaic Fountain, rendered in the brilliant Fourth Style scheme of sky-blue panels, crimson architectural frames, gilded colonnettes, and delicate medallion portraits, all faithfully reproduced by the celebrated Neapolitan photography and publishing firm of Giorgio Sommer. Where most Pompeii postcards show grey ruins, this card dares to restore the lost palette of Roman interior design, making it a standout piece for any collection of classical antiquity ephemera. Published under Sommer's landmark "Fotografie d'Italia, Svizzera e Tirolo" series with the Ponderia Artistica di Bronzo imprint; the back carries a "Carte Postale" format with a penciled dealer notation of "25c-2." Condition shows a surface crack/crease at upper left corner area.
