Postcard 1904 St Keverne Cornwall Village "Jotter" G Smith Pinachrome Art

St Keverne, Cornwall, England1904Pre-linenExcellent

A blonde young woman in a rose-pink dress and straw bonnet strides across the ancient cobblestones of St Keverne carrying two pails, a climbing rose tumbling over the whitewashed cottage wall behind her and the grey granite tower of St Akeveranus Church rising above the thatched roofline — this glowing Edwardian watercolour by "Jotter" (Walter Hayward Young) is a textbook example of the artist's gift for combining honest rural labour with picturesque village architecture, here set in one of the Lizard Peninsula's most historically significant settlements, which dates to pre-Norman times and served as a landmark for sailors navigating the treacherous Black Rock reef offshore. The "Pinachrome Series" card published by G. Smith of London is unused and preserves the artist's warm palette with exceptional freshness, making it a fine cabinet piece for collectors of Cornish topography or Edwardian postcard art.
