Antique & Vintage Postcards

High above the churning Pacific, a line of spectators in white hats crowds a narrow viewing terrace carved into the volcanic rock of La Quebrada — someone has just watched a young diver launch himself into the narrow sea-channel far below, and the writer of this card, signing only as "Maj," couldn't contain the thrill: "We saw a boy dive from cliffs about 100' high into ocean. Was remarkable." Shot on genuine silver-gelatin paper by Kodak Mexicana Ltd., this real-photo postcard captures the legendary Acapulco cliff divers at what appears to be an early, informal iteration of the show — years before the clavadistas became a formal tourist institution in the 1940s. The panoramic overhead view looks down the ravine toward open ocean, waves breaking white against dark basalt, while a railed promenade at mid-frame holds the assembled crowd. In the lower-right corner, two seated figures in broad-brimmed hats watch intently, their backs to the camera. Card no. 106, printed with "LA QUEBRADA ACAPULCO GRO." in the upper-left margin.
