Antique & Vintage Postcards

Leaning in with a cavalier's feathered hat and an expression of irresistible charm, a young gallant whispers to a rosy-cheeked woman in a sumptuous gold-dotted gown trimmed with lace and ribbon — her eyes half-closed in pleasure, a tiny note folded between their clasped hands — against a loose Impressionistic garden of autumn leaves and distant grazing cattle in this gilded, gold-embossed Edwardian romance card bearing the declaration I Love You in ornate Art Nouveau lettering. The costumes place the figures in a fanciful 17th-century pastoral setting beloved by Edwardian illustrators, evoking the golden age of romance without the constraints of contemporary fashion. Gold metallic embossing highlights the dress trim, hat brim, and lettering, giving the card a jewel-box quality typical of the finest German chromolithographic exports of c. 1903–1908. The series number "SER 560" appears in the lower left of the front; the reverse is unexamined in detail but consistent with standard undivided or early divided-back formats.
