Kempten, one of Germany's oldest cities and a Roman settlement known as Cambodunum, is captured here in its pre-WWI provincial calm, its ecclesiastical skyline virtually unchanged since the Thirty Years' War. The card bears no written message and appears to have been a collector or dealer stock copy, unaddressed and unmailed, preserving the image in crisp, high-contrast monochrome typical of German Lichtdruck (collotype) printing of the era.
