Postcard 1900 Pre-Linen Bad Kissingen Kurhausstrasse Bavaria Germany Romania Mail

Bad Kissingen, Bavaria, Germany1902Pre-linenFair-Good

Strolling the elegant Kurhausstrasse of Bad Kissingen — Bavaria's grand 19th-century spa town — this hand-colored lithographic postcard glows with the Belle Époque confidence of a resort at its zenith: four- and five-story cure hotels with wrought-iron balconies line a broad tree-shaded promenade as horse-drawn carriages pass and fashionably dressed guests take the air. Published by the prestigious Munich art house of Kunstanstalt Karl Braun & Co. (est. 1769), the card was mailed from Bad Kissingen to Romania, addressed to Nae P. care of Victor A., at Comuna Poiana, Județul Ialomița, Gara Ghimpați — a vivid reminder that well-to-do Romanian families regularly took the waters at German spas before WWI. The message, written in Romanian cursive, references a stay at "Vila Hollanda" in Carlsbad (Karlovy Vary). A scarlet 10-Pfennig Bayern stamp, lion arms type, anchors the upper right.
