Postcard 1905 Buchholz Saxony Germany Panoramic Town View Color Lithograph

Buchholz i. Sa. (Annaberg-Buchholz), Saxony, Germany1905Pre-linenFair-Good

Soft apricot and rose twilight tints wash the sky above Buchholz in Saxony (today Annaberg-Buchholz) in this delicately hand-colored lithographic panorama, the Gothic spire of the Stadtkirche St. Annen piercing the heavens above a sweep of slate-roofed merchant houses and a stone arched bridge over the Sehma river — a prosperous Erzgebirge market town captured at the height of the Gründerzeit postcard golden age. Published by Gustav Roedel of Buchholz, this card is notable for carrying its entire message crowded across the picture side — the pre-1905 undivided-back convention — with dense German cursive in black ink layered over the image. It was sent in 1905 to Herr Richard in Leipzig-R, Gutenbergstraße, the postmark from a relay station in Buchholz, Saxony.
