Antique & Vintage Postcards

Tucked behind a canopy of mature hardwoods, this graceful Victorian cottage in Harbor Beach, Michigan belonged to one of the state's most celebrated political figures — a serene retreat far removed from the corridors of Lansing. The Photo-Tone rendering captures the home's Gothic Revival dormer, columned wrap-around porch, and striped awning in a cool blue-green palette typical of mid-century linen production. Governor Frank Murphy served Michigan from 1937–1939 before ascending to the U.S. Supreme Court; his Harbor Beach birthplace and family home remained a point of local pride for decades. The card was published by Greeting Publishers of Cleveland, Ohio — a regional house known for its linen scenic series across the Midwest — and carries catalog reference HB 5, suggesting it was part of a dedicated Harbor Beach set. Unused and unaddressed, it survives in clean condition with only minor corner softening.
