Postcard 1930s Linen Russian Hill Skyline Mt Tamalpais San Francisco CA

San Francisco, USA1935LinenExcellent

Pastel towers rise from San Francisco's storied Russian Hill in this vivid linen-era aerial view, with the broad blue sweep of the Bay stretching toward Marin and the twin peaks of Mt. Tamalpais looming in hazy green-gold beyond — a cityscape that captures the optimism of 1930s urban California in saturated ink on textured stock. The foreground churns with a dense patchwork of low commercial blocks giving way to mid-rise apartment towers climbing the hillside, exactly as the reverse caption promises: "Tall apartment buildings climb San Francisco's many hills, affording tenants an unexcelled view of the Bay, Mt. Tamalpais and Marin County." Published by the Stanley A. Piltz Company of San Francisco under the J. K. Piggott Co. copyright, catalog number 2A-H764, this is a classic "White Border to Linen transition" piece aimed squarely at the tourist trade flourishing around the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition era.
