Postcard c.1910 San Francisco CA Post Office Federal Building Mitchell Undivided

San Francisco, California, USA1910Pre-linenGood

Imposing and serene, this early-1900s colorized view of San Francisco's granite-clad Federal Building and Post Office captures the city's proud civic ambition just years after the catastrophic 1906 earthquake — the structure itself survived the quake and fire and stood as a symbol of federal permanence amid reconstruction. The Renaissance Revival façade stretches corner to corner, its rusticated base, arched ground-floor windows, and roofline balustrade rendered in soft mint and sand tones by the hand-coloring process favored in the pre-linen era. Published by the prolific Edward H. Mitchell of San Francisco, whose numbered series documented the Bay Area exhaustively in the first decade of the twentieth century, this card carries the "Domestic One Cent / Foreign Two Cents" stamp box and the classic divided-back layout placing it firmly in the 1907–1915 Mitchell window. The card was never mailed, preserving its surfaces in clean, collectible condition.
