Postcard c.1910 San Diego CA State Normal School Mitchell Pre-Linen Unused

San Diego, California, USA1908Pre-linenGood

Gleaming white against a pale California sky, the San Diego State Normal School spreads its Neoclassical wings across a manicured lawn in this early-color Mitchell card — a snapshot of an institution that would eventually evolve into San Diego State University, one of the largest in the nation. The building's colonnaded central pavilion, flanking wings, and copper-green domed rotundas reflect the City Beautiful ideals sweeping American campuses at the turn of the century, and the lone American flag snapping at the right edge adds a note of civic pride. Published by Edward H. Mitchell of San Francisco under catalog number 793, this card dates to approximately 1905–1910 based on the "Domestic One Cent / Foreign Two Cents" rate box and undivided-to-early-divided back style; a penciled price "15" on the reverse suggests old dealer stock. The card was never mailed and retains crisp color with only expected age toning.
