Antique & Vintage Postcards

Sprawling across a valley between wooded hills, the industrial heart of Bielefeld fills every inch of this lively hand-colored panoramic postcard — factory chimneys puffing beside church steeples, a gas-holder squatting near the right foreground, and the Sparrenburg fortress faintly cresting the far ridge, all stitched together in the golden-green palette of Wilhelmine-era Germany. Someone named Karolina in the village of Hille received this card, perhaps from a friend in the city who couldn't come in person: the message, written in flowing Kurrent script, says "Dear Aunt, I must let you know we are well. I wanted to come see you myself but I can't make it — so at least a fond greeting…" — a small human moment carried by a 5-Pfennig German Reich stamp across Westphalia.
