Postcard 1900s Cabaña Estado de Veracruz Mexico Hand-Tinted UPU Leleplatner

Veracruz, Mexico1904Pre-linenGood

Two men — one in traditional white campesino clothing with a striped serape, leaning on a walking stick, the other in a pale blue work shirt and straw hat — stand in quiet conversation before a round palm-thatched cabaña deep in the tropical vegetation of Veracruz State, while a third figure, a child in a red dress, watches from the shade at left. Hand-tinted with exceptional care — the warm gold thatch, the vivid blue of the visitor's shirt, the lush greens of yucca and jungle — this undivided-back card is one of the earliest in this batch, likely printed before 1907. Published by Leleplatner Berk of Mexico City (catalog no. 6933), it belongs to a celebrated ethnographic series documenting rural Mexican life that was sold to tourists and exported internationally. The scene is staged but ethnographically rich, capturing the vernacular architecture and dress of Veracruz's indigenous and mestizo communities at the turn of the twentieth century.
