Postcard RPPC Pyramid of the Sun Teotihuacan Mexico San Juan c1920s #297

San Juan Teotihuacan, Mexico1925RPPCExcellent

Before restoration crews reshaped its silhouette, a lone figure stands dwarfed at the base of the Pyramid of the Sun — one of the ancient world's largest structures — in this hauntingly crisp real-photo postcard taken at San Juan Teotihuacan, Mexico, likely in the 1920s when the site was still dramatically rugged and largely unexcavated. The silver gelatin print captures the pyramid's five stepped tiers with stark tonal contrast, a dirt road with a wooden fence line cutting across the left foreground, and scrubby high-desert vegetation clinging to the base. The sky is alive with billowing cumulus clouds. This RPPC carries the catalog number 297 and bears a photographer's mark in the lower right — a stylized signature consistent with the prolific Mexican postcard photographer active in this era whose cards are eagerly sought by Teotihuacan and pre-Columbian archaeology collectors alike. The reverse shows the classic "Tarjeta Postal / Unión Universal de Correos" format with the UPU triangle logo, placing it firmly in the early divided-back RPPC era. Unused and unaddressed, the card survives in excellent condition with rich silver tones intact.
