Antique & Vintage Postcards

A cobblestone callejón descends steeply between sun-bleached walls washed in salmon and ochre, with the neo-Gothic spires of the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel punctuating the valley below — this chrome-era postcard captures San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, in its mid-century heyday as an artists' colony drawing expatriates from across North America. Two figures climb the narrow lane in the midground, their colorful clothing bright against the rough plaster walls. Photographed by Mark Turok, whose lens documented Mexico extensively for the Litográfica Turmex publishing house, the image is part of the Vistacolor series (card no. V625), printed in Mexico City. The reverse identifies it as a "Panorámica Típica / Typical Panoramic View" of San Miguel de Allende. Unused and unmailed, this card preserves a pre-mass-tourism glimpse of one of Mexico's most beloved colonial towns.
