Postcard 1960s Chrome Mexico City Columbus Circle Aerial View Glorieta Colon

Mexico City, Mexico1963ChromeExcellent

From high above the Paseo de la Reforma, the geometric confidence of mid-century Mexico City spreads in every direction — the Glorieta Colón (Columbus Circle) anchors the composition, its statue of the navigator at the center of sweeping traffic lanes, while modernist office towers and a curved hotel rise in bold counterpoint to the colonial city beyond. This aerial chrome postcard, published by Ammex Asociados under the Vistacolor label (card no. V255), catches Mexico City at its most optimistic, a metropolis consciously remaking itself as a world-class capital in the years between the 1952 University City inauguration and the 1968 Olympics. The horizontal banding of the buildings, the geometry of the roundabout, and the tiny specks of period automobiles below make this a compelling piece of urban history. Printed by Litho in Mexico, the card was never mailed and carries no message.
